Dr. Akanksha Samal
Osteopathic Family Physician
Akanksha Samal, DO was born in India and moved to the United States at a young age. She studied Biology and Japanese at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. During her undergraduate years, she helped develop a mental wellness track at Emory, and through this, learned that health is not just the absence of disease, but a state of flourishing. This drew her to the holistic approach and philosophy of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Samal then went on to earn her medical degree from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth. She sought residency training in Family Medicine because she wanted to build lifelong relationships and gain experience in the management of patients at all stages of life. In order to further develop her Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) skills, she pursued a special osteopathic track at AdventHealth Family Medicine program in East Orlando. This made it possible for her to become board certified in Family Medicine with Osteopathic Recognition. Finally, she completed an additional fellowship year in Osteopathic Neuromuscular Medicine here in Colorado at the Rocky Vista University/Rocky Vista Health Center program.
Dr. Samal’s goal is to help patients seek the best version of themselves and have agency in their own care. She is passionate about mental health and sharing mindfulness techniques with her patients. She also loves teaching medical students and residents; she currently serves as adjunct faculty for the Rocky Vista College of Osteopathic Medicine and Rocky Vista Health Center.
In her spare time, she loves learning languages, rock climbing, reading, and board games.

Dr. Samal’s approach to medical care is to seek health rather than disease. In addition to managing a wide range of conditions and incorporating preventive care measures, her intention is to help the body restore its mind-body-spirit connection using OMT. Her osteopathic treatments are individualized to each patient and can vary across the spectrum from direct, biomechanical methods to more indirect, biodynamic approaches. With each treatment, she aims to balance the autonomic nervous system by reducing the negative effects of trauma-related interference fields. She also has experience utilizing percussion hammer therapy and is experienced with trigger point, scar, and joint injections. She has particular interest in working on strains of the craniofacial, ocular, and visceral systems as well as smaller joints in the body such as hands, feet, and the temporomandibular joint. Dr. Samal enjoys treating families, expecting mothers, and children using conventional biomedical as well as osteopathic approaches. She sees these systems as complementary and is eager to incorporate BHRT and Functional Medicine into her medical acumen.
