Physician Assistant - Certified
Sonia Mookherjea received her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from the University of Hartford in Connecticut. She worked for a few year in the pharmaceutical industry and then choose to follow her calling to practice medicine and earned her Master's in Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Medicine and Dentistry. Sonia discovered her passion for human physiology during her studies and spent her free time educating herself on evidence based integrative therapies to supplement the conventional medical education she was receiving at UMDNJ. As she learned more about alternatives to pharmaceuticals and Integrative Medicine she knew she wanted to combine both conventional and alternative treatment modalities in her future practice. She set up her elective rotation during PA school with Corinne Furnari, a well known Integrative Medicine clinician in NYC where she learned about Prolotherapy, Thermal Breast Imaging, Nutrition, and Herbal treatments to optimize wellness.
Sonia's love of the outdoors brought her to Colorado where she continued to develop her knowledge in Integrative Medicine and began education in Functional and Personalized Medicine. She developed expertise in how to use genetics to individualize treatment strategies for patients suffering from psychiatric disorders. By addressing neurotransmitter pathways, methylation defects, metabolism and various other factors, it became possible to improve treatment outcomes for neuropsychiatric disorders. As part of her commitment to lifelong learning, Sonia has continued her education with the Institute for Functional Medicine as well as the American Academy of Anti Aging Medicine (A4M). These courses have deepened her understanding of the role that nutrition, individualized biochemistry and hormones play in disease initiation and progression. Sonia is certified with both A4M and Biote to prescribe Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy to help with common symptoms and provide prevention against the chronic diseases of aging. She is passionate about understanding her patients holistically and using her experience in Personalized and Functional Medicine to tailor treatment strategies that will be most effective for each individual.
